Located at Fort Worden State Park Conference Center
The Port Townsend Marine Science Center is one of those small treasures that give “kids” of all ages a chance to really touch, smell, hear and see marine life in Puget Sound. Looking for something new to do? Love nature, fish, animals, history? The Port Townsend Marine Science Center has it all and is looking for new docents and volunteers. Some great opportunities are available for folks to learn and enjoy in the company of other like-minded individuals. A variety of training sessions are offered at various times throughout the year. “We are busier than ever with ongoing activities, special programs, study groups, beach walks and volunteer opportunities of all kinds,” said Jean Walat, Volunteer Coordinator for the PTMSC. “We welcome anyone interested in working with our marine animals, learning about the shoreline and bluffs, greeting visitors or simply discovering something new about the environment we live in.” The Port Townsend Marine Science Center, founded in 1982, is an educational and scientific organization devoted to understanding and conserving our marine and shoreline environment. Located on the beach at Fort Worden State Park, the PTMSC offers two public exhibits: the Marine Exhibit features large touch pools and aquaria, and the Natural History Exhibit highlights the rich zone where land meets sea. The hours vary depending upon the time of year. The Port Townsend Marine Science Center also offers a wide variety of educational programs and special events.
